Americans and the Dumber Society

Has the intelligence level of Americans receded over the past decade? I think that in order to look at this topic, we need to take a look at some of the really smart things that Americans have accomplished over the past 10 years.  PCMag.com wrote an article giving the 10 most influential Tech Advances of the decade.  Here is the list:

  1. Flat Panel TVs/HDTV
  2. DVRs
  3. High Speed Internet
  4. WIFI
  5. Smartphones
  6. Bluetooth
  7. Online Media Services
  8. Online Gaming Services
  9. Social Networking sites
  10. Flash Storage
Admittedly we are technology driven.  These advancements are in my opinion fantastic.  So if we have such fantastic gadgets and services.  Why does it seem that our intelligence level has declined over the past decade?

When you look at these advances in technology, your first impression is that our society is moving forward.  I agree, we are moving forward faster than ever before.  However, with excessive technology advances happening at the speed of light, combined with the ever affordable technology, we have an excessive use of that technology by people.  In a British study, they found that the average person spends 7 hours per day using our fantastic technology advances.

I propose that Americans are not getting "Dumber".  Our use of technology and the ever increasing availability of social networking has magnified our relationships.  Over the next several posts I will give specific examples to explain my point.
